The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office is investigating the third shooting from Sunday, July 17th. This one turned deadly killing Rudy Maldonado Rodriguez, 34.
It happened around 8pm in the 8000 block of Keel Ave. with officials saying a Hispanic male died from his injuries.
During the investigation, deputies were initially told that several people were playing with a revolver spinning the cylinder with one round in the gun, aiming and pulling the trigger. However, after further investigation, deputies learned that Rodriguez and another man were in an argument when the man produced a gun and stated in Spanish, “Let me show you what to do with this.” He then aimed it at Rodriguez and pulled the trigger.
The suspect, Samuel Lara-Garcia, 33, then expressed surprise at what occurred and fled the scene.
Garcia was found in Calcasieu Parish by Troopers with the Louisiana State Police. He is charged with Second Degree Murder and will later be transported to EBR Parish Prison.
That was the third shooting of the day in East Baton Rouge Parish.
There were two earlier and one later in Baton Rouge.
The most recent was just before midnight in the 12000 block of Archery Dr. where a man said he was shot while in his home. He said someone drove by shooting at the home. Officers found several rifle rounds outside the property. He had non-life threatening injuries.
Then around 2:30pm at Harry’s Food Mart on Harry Dr., a Hispanic man was found on the ground shot in the head. He was transported to a hospital.
Prior to that just after midnight, a man working on his car in his driveway was shot on N. Marque Ann. He was transported with non-life threatening injuries.
