Toddler preparing for 3rd brain surgery after severe beating

A toddler spent his Christmas in a hospital fighting for his life after a man who babysat him, allegedly beat him and burned him with cigarettes.

Twenty-two-month-old TyShawn Brumfield has been hospitalized since Dec.15 after Howard Youngblood allegedly abused the child. Youngblood was arrested on a second-degree cruelty charge.

Brumfield suffered several injuries, including swelling to his brain. He also had cigarette burns to his privates and in between his toes.

The toddler’s grandmother, Shelia Archie Parker, said TyShawn had his second brain surgery on Dec. 23 and he is expected to have another surgery to close up the incision soon.

“The plan was to take him off of sedation but they’re not ready to do that yet,” Parker said. “They are going to do another surgery to close everything up. That’s a good thing. That means he’s getting better.”

Parker said her grandson has feeling in his extremities on his left side.

“They’re planning a rehab approach for him,” she said. “Right now, it’s like they (doctors) are checking things off from the checklist. One of the biggest things is they’ve been checking to make sure he’s not blind.”

Parker is asking everyone to keep TyShawn in their thoughts and prayers as she refuses to give up hope.

“It’s been a situation of hope,” she said. “It’s like a miracle. God prevailed. The enemy intended for my grandson to be dead but he’s still here. We’re grateful that he is still here.”

A gofundme has been set up to help with expenses.
