Tornado ripped through Assumption Parish Monday damaging homes, businesses & fire station

LABADIEVILLE — Assumption Parish experienced the impact of an EF0 tornado with winds reaching 80 mph on Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The reported tornado caused significant damage in the area around 4 p.m. Multiple homes and businesses suffered roof and structural damage.

The destructive storm even lifted a mobile home that ended up crashing into Labadieville Volunteer Fire Department’s Station 3. Although the station sustained damage, fortunately, their fire trucks and other equipment remained unharmed.

Initially believed to be straight-line winds, experts now confirm that a tornado affected this area of Hwy. 1011.

Entergy crews were in Labadieville on Tuesday morning to repair several utility lines damaged during the storm. Meanwhile, residents were making repairs to address the structural damage. NWS survey teams are also on the ground examining the damage.

In 2016, Assumption Parish was hit by an EF3 tornado, devastating homes and businesses along La. 1 near Paincourtville. Additionally, an EF0 tornado with 80 mph winds impacted Paincourtville in 2019.

Assumption Parish seems to have borne the brunt of the storms that battered southeast Louisiana on Monday, though the impact was localized. West Feliciana reported hail, while Mandeville experienced flash flooding.

A tornado, originating from the same storm system, caused substantial and widespread damage to the Florida Panhandle on Tuesday morning.
