BATON ROUGE —- A 20-year-old is behind bars facing multiple charges after troopers initiated a stop on a driver allegedly driving 147 mph on Interstate 10. Kevin Camacho, of Baton Rouge, was arrested.
It was just before midnight on June 2 when State Police Troopers stopped a 2021 Dodge Charger on Interstate 10 westbound near Essen Lane. The stop was due to his excessive speeding, troopers said.
Camacho was allegedly driving 147 mph in a posted 60 mph zone. During the traffic stop, troopers say they saw signs of impairment and initiated a DWI investigation.
During that investigation, troopers say they smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and conducted a search. That’s when troopers say they found a loaded handgun, a digital scale, approximately 80 grams of marijuana, THC vape products, and packaging materials commonly associated with the distribution of narcotics.
Camacho was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for reckless operation, driving while intoxicated (first offense), possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The investigation remains ongoing.
