LIVINGSTON — After an incident outside the Livingston Parish Courthouse around 11 a.m., sheriff’s deputies arrested a father and daughter.
Sheriff Jason Ard said that around 11 a.m. on Friday, an incident occurred at the Livingston Parish Courthouse when a man, identified as Ron Gunter, pulled his vehicle up and parked in the fire zone at the front of the building. Gunter exited his vehicle, and his daughter, who was in a different vehicle, walked up to where he was parked, the sheriff said.
The two began setting up “homemade stands” and “homemade caution crime scene” tape around Gunter’s vehicle. That’s when the Livingston Parish deputies who had been observing the pair approached them and Gunner allegedly said they were about to protest.
“As the deputy gets up to the vehicle, this individual—his name is Ron Gunter—opens his door, reaches in and pulls out a long gun, which the deputies immediately grabbed,” the sheriff said.
The deputies were able to get Gunter to the ground and remove the gun. Minor injuries were reported. Both Gunter and his daughter, Nicole Gunter, were arrested and booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center.
They face the following charges:
Nicole Gunter:
- Battery of a police officer (minor injuries)
- Resisting an officer
- Possession of marijuana under 14 grams
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
Ron Gunter (held without bond):
- Violation of a firearm-free zone
- Aggravated assault upon a peace officer
- Resisting with force or violence (minor injuries)
- Possession of marijuana under 14 grams
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
The investigation is ongoing, and the sheriff said that LPSO will provide more information as it becomes available.
