COVINGTON — Deputies arrested two people on drugs and weapons charges after initially investigating a shoplifting incident at a home improvement store.
On Saturday, Aug. 8, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies were notified that a man was seen “swapping tags” while checking out at the store. Through their investigation, deputies identified the man as Garrett Boucvalt and got a warrant for his arrest on the charge of receipts and universal product code labels; unlawful acts.
The next day, Aug. 9, an STPSO deputy went to Boucvalt’s home near Covington to execute a search warrant and locate both Boucvalt and the stolen items. At the home, the deputy says he found guns and unlabeled prescription bottles. Officials seized a rifle, shotgun, pistol and methamphetamine from the home.
Deputies also located Boucvalt in the home, hiding in a locked bedroom closet. He was taken into custody at that time.
Boucvalt was booked in to the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center on the warrant for the wanted charges, along with these additional charges: possession of a firearm by a person convicted of domestic abuse battery, one count of possession of a firearm while in possession of CDS, one count of possession of schedule II (methamphetamine), and two counts of contempt of court.
Deputies also arrested a woman who was at the home after determining she allegedly helped hide Boucvalt in the locked closet. Stefanie Wright was booked into the correctional center for the following: one count of obstruction of justice, three counts of felon in possession of a firearm, one count of possession of schedule II (methamphetamine), and four counts of possession of a legend drug.
