Two charged after stolen car crashes in East Feliciana Parish

EAST FELICIANA — Two people were arrested after allegedly crashing a stolen car and fleeing police in East Felicana Parish on May 17, according to the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say Jalen Johnson, 18, and a juvenile were charged in the incident. Johnson is facing multiple charges that include possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of marijuana, hit-and-run driving, and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. The juvenile was charged with obstructing a police investigation and was released to his parents.

Officials say an East Feliciana Parish deputy was dispatched to a vehicle crash on Hwy 957 and when he arrived, he noticed a man standing by a white vehicle that had run off the road and rolled over. When the person saw the deputy’s vehicle the suspect fled.

When the deputy examined the vehicle, he saw the ignition switch had been removed from the steering column and the car had been hotwired.

The investigation determined that the Kia Soul was stolen from a used car lot in Baton Rouge. Officials say the stolen vehicle had a stolen license plate from a different Kia Soul and neither vehicle had been reported stolen. Baton Rouge Police took a stolen report on the car and the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office took a report on the stolen license plate.

Officials say BRPD plans to charge both suspects with auto theft.
