HAMMOND — Two people were killed in a crash involving a motorcycle Saturday night in Hammond.
It was around 6:45 p.m. on July 18 when the Hammond Police Department responded to a crash with injury involving a motorcycle on W. Thomas Street at the Chanell Shopping Center. The crash claimed the lives of two people on the motorcycle.
Officials identified the victims as Kaleb Bishop, 31, of Hammond, and Brittany Novak, 33, of Albany.
During the investigation, Hammond PD officers determined that the driver of the motorcycle was improperly passing and hit a vehicle in the intersection at a high rate of speed. Bishop and Novak were ejected from the motorcycle, landed out of the roadway, and the motorcycle then came to a stop in the grassy area several feet away.
Both Bishop and Novak were declared dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle that the motorcycle hit was not injured, per officials.
Impairment is not suspected as a contributing factor in the crash, but as in all fatal crashes, a blood sample will be taken and submitted to the State Crime Lab for analysis.
