Two former BRPD chiefs putting on safety classes

It’s no secret former Baton Rouge Police Chief Pat Englade has been very outspoken about the current BRPD administration, but now, it’s no longer about speaking out against the chief and his top brass.

“The crime is completely out of hand at this point. We’ve sat aside for so long because it was the right thing to do but we can’t let Baton Rouge be a sinking ship right now,” said Englade.

It’s why he and former BRPD Chief Greg Phares are hosting two “Keeping Yourself Safe” classes for Baton Rouge.

“We’ve had several people reaching out to us both worried about their own safety in Baton Rouge,” said Phares.

“It’s gotten to a point that it’s not just young women who are scared to go out in Baton Rouge in the evenings. Now, it appears just about everyone is constantly watching their surroundings any time of the day and that’s a harsh reality we’re living,” said Englade.

The classes are free to the public and will be at the Holiday Inn on Airline Hwy. near I-12. No sign up is required. You simply show up.

The first will be on Tuesday, Sept. 27th and the second is on Thursday, Sept. 29th, both from 6-8 p.m.

“It’s all about your awareness and surroundings. Women have tremendous intuition and we try to give them pointers on how to use that to better protect themselves. We all need to have our heads on a swivel now. The danger is all around us,” said Englade.

The two chiefs formed an LLC called “Louisiana Safety & Security Consulting Group” to provide their combined decades worth of law enforcement knowledge to the public.

“It’s not about making money for us when it comes to the safety of Baton Rougeons. We just want people to be equipped with things to be aware of, things to look for and how to respond if they become a victim of crime,” said Phares.

The chiefs said they will ensure everyone gets inside the hotel and leaves safely from the hotel.
