Two killed after crashing into tree in Tangipahoa Parish

On Dec. 6th, two people were killed in Tangipahoa Parish in a car crash, claiming the lives of two people from Covington.

Late in the afternoon, Louisiana State Police Troopers responded to a car crash on LA Hwy 40 near LA Hwy 445 in Loranger involving one car. In that vehicle were two people, John Bitter, 67, and Janice Pellegrin, 64.

The crash happened when the driver, John Bitter, was headed eastbound on LA Hwy 40 in a 2011 Nissan Sentra, and for unknown reasons the Nissan crossed the centerline and veered off the roadway.

That’s when troopers said the car crashed into a tree.

Both occupants were properly buckled, but died from their injuries.

Bitter was pronounced dead on the scene, and Pellegrin was transported to a local hospital were he ultimately died.

A toxicology sample was taken from the driver but results are unknown.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

The LSP Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle: never drive impaired, fatigued or distracted, follow all traffic laws and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained.
