Two killed in head-on crash in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE —- Two people were killed in a Saturday evening head-on crash in East Baton Rouge Parish.

It was just after 6pm on Sept. 16, 2023, when State Police Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Nicholson Dr. just south of Bluebonnet Blvd.

Two people died in the crash: Stefan Valentine, 34, of Baton Rouge and Claudette Holmes, 45, of Carville.

The preliminary investigation so far shows Valentine was driving a 2004 Toyota 4-Runner headed south on Nicholson Dr. At the same time, Holmes was driving a 2018 Mazda CX5 and going the opposite direction on Nicholson Dr.

For unknown reasons, Valentine crossed over into the oncoming traffic and hit the Mazda head-on.

Troopers say Valentine was not buckled at the time of the crash and died from his injuries at the scene. Meanwhile, Holmes was buckled, but did not survive her injuries.

The passenger of the Mazda was buckled and was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

A standard toxicology sample was collected from both drivers and will be submitted for scientific analysis.

This crash remains under investigation.
