Two killed in morning wreck in Killian

A 21-year-old and a 22-year-old died in a car wreck in Killian Friday morning.

The 21-year-old, Robert Martin, was driving a 2001 GMC and for unknown reasons crossed the center line. Martin crashed into 22-year-old Dakota Rushing, who was driving a 2005 Ford.

Killian Police Chief Tim Henderson said Rushing died at the scene, and Martin was air lifted to North Oaks Medical Center.

Shortly after arriving, Martin also died from his injures.

The police responded to a 911 call around 5:34 a.m. and the car wreck happened within Killian town limits on Hwy. 22 at the Tickfaw River Bridge.

Toxicology samples were taken from both drivers and are awaiting testing.

“We don’t have any indication that there were any signs of impairment at this time, but the investigation is ongoing,” Henderson said.

Hwy. 22 at the Tickfaw bridge was closed following the accident but is now reopened.

The investigation is ongoing.
