Two pedestrians killed, one injured in separate Monday morning crashes

ASCENSION PARISH — Two women were killed in separate crashes Monday morning, according to Louisiana State Police.

In Gonzales, Sarah Berteau, 41 of St. Amant, was killed after she was struck from behind by a vehicle around 1 a.m. on LA 935 near Roddy Rd. Investigators say Berteau was wearing dark colored clothing when she was hit.

LSP says the driver of the vehicle that hit her sustained minor injuries, and impairment is not suspected.

A few hours later, LSP began investigating another deadly crash involving two pedestrians in Livingston Parish.

Candace Linder, 39 of Walker, was walking along another person on LA 1024 when they were both struck by a Ford F-150. Investigators say Linder and the other person were both wearing dark colored clothing and were in the roadway when they were hit.

Linder died at the hospital. The other pedestrian, who was not identified by LSP, sustained severe injuries. The driver of the F-150 was not hurt.

Investigators say both crashes are still under investigation.
