Two lanes shut down on I-12 westbound after diesel spill

BATON ROUGE — As rush hour in Baton Rouge begins to hit its peak hour, traffic on Interstate 12 westbound at Airline Hwy. will be down to one lane only.

Officials are responding to I-12 at Airline Hwy. after a crash around 4:15pm involving a diesel spill. It’s why Baton Rouge Fire & St. George Fire’s hazmat crews are now responding to the scene.

One of the vehicles involved in the crash is a cargo tanker that was carrying argon. Argon is an inert gas, meaning it is colorless and odorless. It is also a non-toxic gas.

Drivers are asked to be patient as traffic westbound will remain at one lane until hazmat can clean up the diesel spill and safely re-open I-12.

Official say two people were transported to area hospitals, but the extent of their injuries is unknown.
