LSU students charged in Sunday night shooting

BATON ROUGE – Two Louisiana State University students have been charged in connection with a shooting near campus on April 23, according to arrest documents.

Marvin Young, who was identified as the shooting victim, has been charged with obstruction of justice, possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Police say Young was treated at Baton Rouge General Mid City for non-life-threatening injuries.

Germaine Braden has been charged with illegal discharge of a weapon and obstruction of justice.

According to the arrest warrants, surveillance video shows Braden, Young, and a third passenger, Ahmad Green, inside a white Dodge Challenger behind Bayou Hall on Sunday night. The three men were waiting in the car for approximately 10 minutes before Green got out of the car and walked along a sidewalk directly behind Bayou Hall.

The affidavit states that an unknown vehicle pulled into the parking lot and parked behind the Young and Braden in the Challenger. Seconds later, Braden was seen getting out of the side of the vehicle before “sprinting back to the Challenger holding a large unknown item.”

The driver in the unknown vehicle chased after Braden before firing a single shot into the back windshield, hitting Young as he was trying to pull away.

Witnesses told police that they saw Braden fire several shots back into the parking lot, and they noted the parking lot was “well traveled by students and visitors before, during, and after the incident.”

LSU police say they are still looking for others involved in the shootout.

Anyone with information can call LSU Police at 225-578-3231 or Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP.
