BATON ROUGE — Two Istrouma High employees remain on paid leave after a gun discharged in a classroom on Feb. 25.
The principal was placed on paid leave after the shooting, and returned to work Tuesday. A teacher and an office staff member are still on leave, school system spokesperson Tyler Gast said.
The gunfire at the school at 3730 Winbourne Ave. happened just before 9 a.m. Police called it an “accidental discharge.”
No one was injured.
Investigators learned the gun on the Istrouma campus, which had a “machine gun conversion device,” had been reported stolen, police said.
Police booked Marcus Washington Jr., an 18-year-old student, with carrying a firearm on school property, negligent carrying of a concealed handgun, illegal use of weapons and illegal possession of a stolen firearm.
