Two shootings west of the river leave three dead & another injured

Deputies are now asking for your help in locating a person of interest

It was a busy night for deputies in West Baton Rouge & Pointe Coupee parishes as officials worked two unrelated shootings.

The first happened on Delta Place Rd. in New Roads around 9:30pm on Sept. 17th.

Pointe Coupee Sheriff Rene Thibodaux said one person shot three different people. He added two of the victims were shot in the chest and died on the scene. The sheriff said one of the victim’s dad happened to be near the scene and went to his son after he saw him lying in the road. That’s when Sheriff Thibodaux said the dad was also shot but in the hip.

The father was AirMed to a nearby hospital. The sheriff added all of victims & shooter appear to be related.

Sheriff Thibodaux said deputies are actively looking for a man by the name of Morris Hollins as a person of interest in this shooting. He said deputies have reason to believe Hollins may be on the run. If you know Hollins’ whereabouts, you’re asked to call the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office at 225-694-3737.

Nearly four hours later in West Baton Rouge Parish, deputies responded to the Raxx Bar & Grill where officials say a man was shot in the parking lot around 1:45am. Major Zack Simmers with the WBRSO said the victim died after he was transported to the hospital.

As of 8:30pm Sept. 18th, Major Simmers said the suspect was in custody and charged with second degree murder. The suspect’s name cannot be released for now as he is a juvenile.

Unfiltered with Kiran has learned that those involved with the Raxx incident may be minors. It’s why Tony Clayton, district attorney for the 18th JDC, is requesting a full investigation into the management of Raxx.

Clayton is the district attorney for Pointe Coupee, West Baton Rouge & Iberville parishes.

“If laws were broken and minors were allowed in, I want a full blown investigation into who is allowing that from the management front and who’s ID’ing at the door, if anyone. If we find that laws were indeed broken, arrests will follow,” said Clayton.

Both cases remain under investigation.
