The names of two 16-yr-olds who died in a submerged vehicle have been released.
The Louisiana State Police identified the teenagers as Caroline Smith and Chloe Hamilton of Prairieville. LSP now says both died on the scene.
Sources said the two were submerged about 35 minutes.
The initial investigation revealed that around Noon on June 19, 2022, Smith was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala on LA 427. For reasons still under investigation, Smith went off the roadway to the right onto the gravel shoulder before hitting a tree. After hitting the tree, the car vault into a private pond and became fully submerged.
It happened near the Ascension/EBR parish line in the 18000 block of Perkins Rd. Units from both parishes were dispatched as well as LSP.
Multiple agencies, firefighters and dive teams assisted with the recovery. The car was submerged so much so that officials realized the water was too deep for a simple search.
It’s why firefighters put on gear to assist them in diving deeper. Both St. George and Prairieville Fire Departments put multiple personnel into the water to search for the vehicle.
The two teenagers were pulled out about 35 minutes after their vehicle went under water.
