BATON ROUGE — Unfiltered with Kiran is celebrating three years of delivering unbiased, in-depth journalism by unveiling an overhauled website and app.
Founded by award-winning journalist Kiran Chawla in 2021, UWK has evolved from disseminating news solely through social media to becoming a thriving media enterprise. In just three years, UWK has earned three national Edward R. Murrow awards and has reshaped the media landscape in south Louisiana.
“At each anniversary, we’ve endeavored to show appreciation to our loyal audience,” Chawla said. “This year, we recognized that our existing website and app no longer met our needs. We understood the necessity for a more robust platform to deliver even more news to south Louisiana.”
UWK officially launched the new website and app during their third-anniversary celebration at the Pace Center in Gonzales. Congressman Garret Graves served as the master of ceremonies for the event, which featured notable business leaders, elected officials, law enforcement, and hundreds of supporters from the surrounding area.
The revamped website boasts a cleaner interface and a vertical video player, providing viewers with easier access to UWK’s storytelling. Additionally, there’s an interactive map that enables users to locate news specific to their communities.
“This feature enables you to discover the news that matters most to you in a quicker, more concise manner,” Chawla remarked. “While you’ll still have access to our investigative reports and heartwarming features, we recognize that many individuals turn to us for stories that affect their neighborhoods. This new feature emphasizes these stories as the primary focus. It also presents us with an opportunity to connect with small businesses in these communities in a completely new way.”
The website was developed in collaboration with Mithril Media.
During the anniversary celebration, UWK honored many of the individuals behind the headlines that have propelled the website to one of the top news destinations in south Louisiana.
