
The Ascension Parish Little League 12U team dug itself out of a five-run hole in the final half inning to advance to the Little League Baseball Southwest Region Championship.
Ascension Parish trailed 7-2 heading into the bottom half of the sixth inning before rallying for six runs and edging Oklahoma 8-7.
Tyler Tunnard and Alving Mendoza earned back-to-back bases-loaded walks to score the game-tying and game-ending runs.
Myer Woodard led the team with two hits (two doubles) and four RBIs. He tossed three innings on the mound, allowing four runs on one hit with five strikeouts.
Tunnard was named the winning pitcher in relief.
Ascension advances to the championship to face Texas East Tuesday at noon on ESPN.
Ascension opened the tournament with wins over New Mexico (11-1) and Oklahoma (5-1) on Thursday and Friday before suffering a 3-0 loss to Texas East on Sunday.
Texas East beat Mississippi (9-5), Texas West (5-2), and Ascension Parish on the way to the championship.
If Ascension beats Texas East, the team will advance to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
