Within 72 hours of an elderly man being beaten and robbed at gunpoint, Livingston Parish Sheriff’s deputies have made two arrests in connection to the case. LPSO arrested John Bailey, 49, and Laurent Rauman, 39, late Thursday night.
Bailey is charged with attempted first degree murder, armed robbery and felon in possession of a firearm. Rauman is charged with accessory after the fact to armed robbery
“We are very thankful of all the hard work from the detectives and the sheriff’s office. They worked nonstop around the clock to solve this case and it makes us feel safe and proud to be from Livingston Parish,” said Hutchinson’s grandson Wyatt Pearson.
Hutchinson was at his home in the 33,000 block of Hwy 441 in Livingston Parish around 8pm Monday, Jan. 17th. The rest of his family had gone to attend his ex-wife, their grandmother’s funeral.
Just as the family was getting home from the funeral, they heard the news that someone broke into their paw-paw’s home, beat him, held a gun to his head before forcing him to open his safe and taking everything. The family said Bailey allegedly stole their paw-paw’s 2005 Ford Taurus and an undisclosed amount of money.

Hutchinson, also known as “Sonny”, did have to go to a hospital for stitches and was released the next day.
The family had come together with a $30,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever abused his grandfather. It’s unclear as of now if the family did end up paying out the reward or were able to save their money.
The family did say their paw-paw had been through enough already because his daughter Carol Hutchinson was murdered in Sept. 2019.
Bailey has been arrested in Livingston Parish in the past. In 2020, he was arrested for two counts of theft. Those stemmed from allegedly stealing a Bobcat Skid Steer and in a separate case, allegedly stealing a truck and trailer from someone.
His charges from 2019 are possession of schedule II narcotics and operating a vehicle without a license.
Bailey remains locked up at the Livingston Parish prison with a $800,000 bond.
