DENHAM SPRINGS — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is plugging away at the Juban Road Project in the Denham Springs area and is on track for completion this fall.
Rodney Mallet with DOTD told UWK that the Juban Road Project should be completed by the end of October to mid-November. This past spring, Mallet said that the project was expected to be substantially completed by the end of summer and into fall.
As of Sept. 15, DOTD crews were slip forming the outside curb for the road, Mallet said.
Back in July & August, heavier summer storms and rainfall affected crews’ ability to work on the curbs and gutter and work was shut down for longer periods.
In April, crews cut cement in the middle section of the project, and stone was hauled in shortly after, to be followed by asphalt, Mallet said.
“Traffic is flowing much better since the traffic signal was removed last month and put on the circular configuration,” Mallet told UWK in April about traffic congestion in the areas near construction.
The plan is to widen Juban Road to a four-lane roadway with U.S. 190 (Florida) staying two lanes. The project expands Juban Road from U.S. 190 to Castle Rd. into a four-lane roadway, along with the construction of a two-lane roundabout at the intersection of Juban Rd. and Hwy. 190.
Originally slated for completion in 2021, the project was delayed due to utility relocation setbacks, DOTD officials confirmed. By September 2023, the project had a new estimated completion of early to mid-2025. Now, that completion date has been pushed to late 2025.
