UPDATE: Two arrested in connection to RaceTrac shooting

Two people have been arrested in connection to a shooting that took place around 4pm at the RaceTrac on Essen near I-10.


Around 4pm on March 9, 2022, East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a shooting at the RaceTrac on Essen near I-10.


A person was shot in the leg and the suspect fled. A woman who was with the alleged shooter was detained. Around 5:30pm, the suspect was arrested.

The two arrested have been identified as Kendrick Johnson, 24, of Alaska St. in Baton Rouge, and Alexis Mungo, 24, of Tannis Dr. in St. Amant. 

EBRSO said according to statements, Johnson allegedly attempted to steal a backpack of drugs from the victim while the victim was smoking in the bathroom. During the struggle for the bag, Johnson allegedly shot the other man in the foot. 

Johnson is charged with:

  • Armed Robbery
  • Attempted First Degree Murder
  • Resisting an Officer

Mungo is charged with:

  • Principal – Armed Robbery
  • Principal – Attempted First Degree Murder
