BATON ROUGE — Unfiltered with Kiran has won two additional National Telly Awards, bringing further recognition to its impactful storytelling and investigative journalism in Southeast Louisiana.
The Telly Awards, established in 1979 to honor excellence in video and television, have since evolved to include digital media entries. This year, more than 13,000 submissions were received from media outlets around the world.
One of UWK’s new accolades is a Silver Telly for its investigative piece titled “Fired, Rehired, Fired Again,” which spotlighted a Baton Rouge police officer. The officer had been terminated from the Baton Rouge Police Department 23 years ago for sexual harassment and issues related to truthfulness. Decades later, he was rehired by then-Police Chief Murphy Paul.
Following UWK’s investigation and reporting, the officer was swiftly fired once again.

The second award, a Bronze Telly, was given for a feature celebrating UWK’s three-year anniversary as a digital news outlet serving the Greater Baton Rouge area. The video showcased the launch of UWK’s new website and app, developed in response to the growing demand for its coverage.
The piece also told the story of founder Kiran Chawla, exploring her inspiration for starting Unfiltered with Kiran and the journey since its launch on June 9, 2021.
Previously, UWK earned two Telly Awards for its documentaries on the disappearance of Nathan Millard and on Chawla’s efforts to assist South Louisiana after a devastating hurricane in 2021.

In addition to the Telly Awards, UWK has been honored with an Emmy Award for “Unfiltered Efforts” and has received three prestigious National Edward R. Murrow Awards.
