BATON ROUGE– The third victim so far this year of stolen vehicles at an apartment complex in Perkins Rowe is looking for answers.

Cassandra Buckner said her son returned home to his apartment in Park Rowe Village in late March. When he did, a neighbor informed him that her car and another one had been stolen.

The mother said her son went up to his apartment, and about 30 minutes later, his neighbor heard his car start but didn’t think anything of it.

“My son didn’t even know that was happening at that moment,” Buckner said. “The girl is the one who alerted the manager. That’s when they called my son. He came down, and his car was gone. Nobody was notified about how they were stealing specific kinds of cars. They stole a Camaro, and I think a Hellcat was missing. And I think they say, ‘Okay, it was stolen.’ It had been happening in that complex.”

An East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputy took a statement about the incident, but weeks have passed, and Buckner says her son has not heard any updates about the theft.

“Nothing. No surveillance cameras and for them to be Perkins Rowe, I just do not believe that there are no cameras in the area that can provide information,” Buckner said. “My son is not a troublemaker. He is not in the streets. He drives trucks for a living and his girlfriend is a registered nurse. They work for their stuff. I think you should be able to go and buy whatever you like, if you can afford it. When you go somewhere that’s supposed to be a luxury apartment, you kind of feel like you’re okay. My biggest issue was why no one is saying anything.”

EBRSO tells UWK so far this year, three different vehicles have been reported stolen from Perkins Rowe, with the most recent being Buckner’s son in March 2024.

Anyone with information on any of the stolen vehicles is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP or submit an anonymous tip online.
