BATON ROUGE — The afternoon commute was snarled Wednesday after a train collided with a truck.
The incident occurred around 3 p.m. at the intersection of Airline Highway and S. Choctaw Drive, just north of the Amazon facility and the old Cortana Mall site.
A witness shared video with UWK showing the truck obstructing the railroad crossing. Seconds later, the sound of the train’s horn can be heard, followed by a loud crash.
The witness noted that this crossing lacks a railroad crossing arm, with only red flashing lights and a newly painted red zone serving as warnings.
=“They actually painted a red zone for those tracks so you know where you’re supposed to stop,” the witnesse said. They pointed out that, prior to this change, there was a stopping area between crossings. Now, all traffic must stop before the tracks at the red zone.
“You could hear the horn, and I looked and saw that backloader and the front end was in the red zone,” the witness said. That’s when they started recording the oncoming train.
According to EMS, there were no serious injuries.
