Violent Christmas weekend in Baton Rouge

There have been at least seven shootings in which at least two people have died and multiple people were shot in several separate incidents.

Baton Rouge Police officers spent their Christmas responding to four separate shootings on Christmas day, including a fatal shooting. 

Around 9am on Dec. 25th, officers found a man dead in the 11000 block of Sherwood Hollow Court. 

About two hours later around 11:30am, officers were told someone was shot near the 10000 block of Plaza Americana and was at the hospital. 

After 6pm on Dalton St., a 19-yr-old and his brother said a vehicle pulled up to a home and started shooting. The teen was shot in the arm. Officers picked up at least 40 shell casings and two guns. 

On Sunday, Dec. 26th, so far, there have been two shootings including one on Interstate 10.

Around 2am, BRPD went to the Raising Cane’s parking lot on Highland Rd. The victim told officers she was shot on I-10 westbound and went to the fast food’s parking lot.

Not even an hour later on Prescott, there was another shooting with a 23-yr-old shot multiple times. He was taken to a hospital but no word yet on his condition. 

Shortly after 11am, a man was found dead in the 5300 block of McClelland Dr. in Baton Rouge. Not even 20 minutes later, there was another shooting on Victoria St. with the victim suffering from life-threatening injuries.

The number of homicides in Baton Rouge is now up to 131 for 2021 so far with another week to go before the year is over.
