Violent crime continues across Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE — A string of shootings, many of them deadly, continue to plague the city heading into the notoriously violent summer months. After starting the first half of the year with fewer homicides and overall crime seemingly down, an uptick in the past two weeks has city leaders looking for a way to curb the violence.

Here’s a look at some of the major incidents that investigators are working since Memorial Day:

St. Katherine Ave

Baton Rouge police are investigating after the victim was shot in the 5700 block of St. Katherine Ave. That’s near Hollywood St. between Airline Hwy. and N. Foster Dr.

The victim as reportedly found on nearby Annette St. around 10 p.m. Monday. The victim was transported to the hospital, and their condition is not known.

Tecumseh St

Around 11 p.m. Monday, there were reports of multiple shots fired in the 3100 block of Tecumseh St. That’s off I-110 north of Chippewa. The scene was feet away from New Home Ministries Church.

The shots were fired into a large crowd, and a woman was hit in the stomach. She was transported to the hospital, but her condition is unknown.

Wentling Ave

Around 1 a.m. Tuesday, police were called to the Hidden Pointe Apartments off Wentling Ave. This is near Jefferson Hwy. and Airline Hwy. behind Parkview Baptist.

Sources tell UWK a man and a woman were looking for their friend but did not know which specific apartment the person was in so they were knocking on various doors.

One of the tenants and the man got into an argument that led to the tenant shooting the man several times, including in the head. He died at the scene.

St. Gerard Ave. Double Shooting

Police are investigating a double shooting in the 6300 block of St. Gerard Ave. This is right off Airline Hwy. and is not far from the St. Katherine Ave. shooting

The two victims were shot multiple times and were taken to the hospital by private vehicle. Their condition is unknown as police continue to piece together what happened.
