BATON ROUGE — It was a bloody, violent weekend across the Capital City with four shootings and at least three people killed. Here’s what we know on the incidents taking place across Baton Rouge:
North Street
A body was found at the BREC North Street Park Sunday morning. An East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputy working extra duty at a church was alerted before noon about the body found in a park.
Baton Rouge police responded, and UWK has learned the coroner’s office was dispatched to the scene. The circumstances surrounding the death have not yet been released.
Victoria Drive
Baton Rouge police is investigating after one person was shot in the 3800 block of Victoria Dr. around 10 p.m. Saturday. That’s near Airline Hwy. and Greenwell Springs Rd.
The victim was transported to the hospital. Their condition is unknown.
75th Avenue
About two hours later around midnight Sunday, a 21-year-old was shot in the 1600 block of 75th Ave. This is near Airline Hwy. and Harding Blvd.
The victim’s condition is unknown. BRPD is investigating.
College Drive
A 20-year-old woman was shot around 2:30 a.m. Sunday on College Drive near Aldrich Dr., that’s between I-10 and Corporate Blvd.
The victim says the gunman sped away after the shooting. She was shot in the ankle and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Avenue J
Baton Rouge police were called to Avenue J Sunday morning around 8:30 a.m. after a body was found inside a car at the Wood Plaza Apartments just north of Southern University.
There are early reports that the body may have been there for a while, and sources tell UWK the death is a possible drug overdose. An official cause of death is pending a coroner’s autopsy and toxicology report.
Tuscarora Street
Around 9 a.m. Sunday, police were called to the Tuscarora St. in Mid City North after a man was found shot to death in the garage of an empty home.
Sources tell UWK that the victim was shot twice in the chest. He has been identified as Tyron Davis, 52.
