Walmart evacuated after possible bomb threat

Officials in Pointe Coupee Parish responded to a possible bomb threat at the Walmart in New Roads.

Pointe Coupee Sheriff Rene Thibodeaux said they received a call of a possible bomb in the men’s restroom around 3:15pm on May 19, 2022.

Law enforcement responded immediately and evacuated the entire store, including personnel who were working rooftop.

After New Roads Police officers and deputies searched the bathrooms, officials said no suspicious package was found.

As of 4:30pm, employees were returning to work after an “all clear” and the Walmart will reopen.
