Watson: 22-year-old killed had ‘radiant smile & infectious giggles’

WATSON — Loved ones of a young mother killed on her way home from a convenient store, are now left planning a funeral.

Abigail Wheat, 22, known as ‘Abby’ was tragically killed around 12:30 a.m. on June 29 on Hwy. 16 near Bailey Lane in a double fatality crash.

Her godmother Alicia Crochet tells UWK that Wheat had gone to a convenient store around midnight with a friend. They were about five miles from being back to the house on Hwy. 16 when Louisiana State troopers say the driver in her car crossed over the center line and hit a Dodge Neon head-on.

The driver of that Dodge, Kenneth Broussard, 28, of Prairieville, also died in the crash. Troopers say Broussard was buckled, but that Wheat was not. Wheat died on the scene in the crash. Meanwhile, the driver in Wheat’s car, whose name has not been publicly released, is in a hospital with several injuries. Impairment is unknown at this time.

Abby had a ‘radiant smile & infectious giggles’

“Abby was a beautiful soul, both inside and out. Her radiant smile and infectious giggles were constants in her life, lighting up every room she entered. She loved with her whole heart and touched many lives with her kindness and warmth,” said Crochet.

Wheat grew up in the Watson area and went to Live Oak High. She was in the class of 2020.

“Abby was the proud mother of a four-year-old son, who was her spitting image. Despite the challenges she faced as a teenager, Abby was determined to create a better life for her and her son. She was filled with hope and excitement about the future and was committed to making positive changes,” said Crochet.

That little boy is now without his mother.

Her family is raising money to cover the cost of a funeral. Anyone wishing to help can donate here.
