WBR: Barge covers on fire near Intracoastal

PORT ALLEN, La. —- West Baton Rouge officials are reporting barge covers that are on fire south of I-10.

The fire broke out around 2pm on N. Line Rd. in Port Allen near the Port Allen Canal. Witnesses are reporting the black cloud of smoke can be seen from miles away.

They are grain barge covers that are on fire according to officials.

The fire is very difficult to get to because of its location between the bank and land. Officials are on the scene now trying to get water to the fire as well as trying to get a boat there with the help of a nearby plant.

As of now, the WBRSO says they do not have any injuries reported.

Drivers are asked to please use caution in the area of LA Hwy 1 and the Intracoastal Waterway.
