The West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Gonzales man for showing up naked to the Tiger Traxx Exxon late Sunday night, allegedly pooping all over the story and trying to attack a 19-yr-old cashier.
Joel Shane Pennington, 49, was arrested on several charges after WBRSO deputies had to tase the man at least twice.

Around 11:30pm on June 12, 2022, deputies responded to the Tiger Traxx Exxon on Hwy 190. Pennington’s arrest warrant said “a fully nude male (was) acting very sporadic, trying to attack citizens and the 19-yr-old cashier.”
Deputies said two people had barricaded themselves in the Tiger Traxx “with a look of sheer terror and shock, faces flushed.”
Pennington’s mom was also on the scene with her van. When deputies asked her where Pennington was, she pointed to the van. When deputies opened the door to the van, Pennington allegedly looked the deputies in the eyes and screamed “I’M GONNA DO IT!”
Deputies continued to give loud verbal commands “to do nothing but stay still laying in the van or the deputy would tase Pennington.”
However, officials said Pennington allegedly “shot out” at the deputies with “great speed and aggression.” That’s when a deputy deployed his department issued taser hitting Pennington in the chest & his private area.
That’s when deputies were able to handcuff Pennington, who was still fully nude, but when a deputy tried to place his left hand in the handcuff, the arrest warrant said Pennington tried to pull away. That’s when a deputy hit Pennington the second time with the taser. Pennington “fell halfway into the van and slide onto the ground of the parking lot.”
They finally got Pennington up and as they were walking him to put him in their unit, Pennington jumped and landed full force on his butt. Deputies were able to finally get him in the unit.
“The videos have been viewed by our department heads. It is our belief that our deputies acted appropriately and within WBRSO policies,” said WBRSO Major Zack Simmers.
Pennington is charged:
- 1 count obscenity
- 3 counts resisting an officer
- 1 count disturbing the peace/simple assault
- 1 count disturbing the peace/violent & tumultuous manner
- 1 count disturbing the peace/drunk
- 2 counts simple criminal damage to property
As of now, sources said it appears Pennington was “high.” No word yet on exactly what he was high by or how high.
