PORT ALLEN —- A West Baton Rouge parish inmate was able to escape the jail before barricading himself in a residential pond.
It was just before 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024 when Christopher Spearman, 24, is accused of attacking a correctional deputy before escaping the facility.

Spearman was found along U.S. Highway 190 off of River Rd. near North Riverview, where WBRSO says he fled from deputies and jumped into a residential pond.
Deputies say Spearman was in the middle of the pond and refused to exit.
Deputies maintained communication with Spearman and eventually took him into custody when he surrendered around 9 p.m.
The injured deputy was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.
Spearman is facing additional charges, which will be provided at a later time.
He was initially serving time for illegal possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles.
This incident remains under investigation.
