Weapon found after school placed on lockdown Monday

New Iberia Senior High School was placed on lockdown Monday morning while New Iberia Police investigated a gun on campus, according to authorities.

Officials say New Iberia Police responded to an incident at the school at 11:32 a.m. on Dec. 12. Law enforcement recovered a weapon during the search.

New Iberia police say the school’s administration and resource officer were able to quickly get the situation under control.

“There is no longer a threat on campus,” police said in the afternoon statement. “All students and staff members are safe. No one was injured during the incident.”
