PORT ALLEN — An inmate from the West Baton Rouge Parish Detention Center who was taken to a hospital following a “medical crisis” on March 5 has died, sheriff’s officials confirmed to UWK.
Sources tell UWK the inmate, who has not yet been named, ingested an unknown drug and was rushed to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
It remains unclear how the substance entered the jail. However, the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed to UWK that a “shakedown” was conducted at the facility on March 7. WBRSO did not disclose whether anything was found during the search but stated that further details would be released later.
WBRSO stated that an autopsy of the inmate is scheduled for March 12. Officials say the incident is under investigation, and they are awaiting those autopsy results.
