West Baton Rouge: Pursuit began with hit & run, allegedly by driver severely intoxicated

BRUSLY — It was around 10 p.m. on Saturday night when a pursuit started in Port Allen after the suspect allegedly hit someone and then fled, police say. It ended with the driver crashing in a cane field in Brusly.

Port Allen Police say they responded to hit-and-run complaint in the area of LA Highway 1 and Avenue G on Feb. 7th. Instead of stopping though, the driver fled south on La. 1 towards the Intracoastal Bridge. That driver then went into the city limits of Brusly.

The driver has been identified as Christian Gordon, 20. Officials say after a short pursuit, Gordon crashed into a cane field near La 1, across from Brusly High School, as soon as he entered into Brusly. Gordon had to be extricated out of his vehicle.

Police Allen Police say Gordon was “severely” intoxicated with his blood alcohol content more than two times the legal limit, coming in at .182.

Gordon was arrested and is facing numerous charges:

• Following Too Close

• Aggravated Flight from an Officer

• Careless Operation

• Open Container

• OWI (Under 21 Years of Age)

• Possession of Alcohol by a Person Under 21

Brusly PD was not involved in the pursuit itself.
