West Baton Rouge: Two killed in crash as SUV attempted to pass up car

PORT ALLEN — Two drivers of separate vehicles were killed in a crash in West Baton Rouge Parish on Dec. 30, 2023.

It happened around 4:45 p.m. on Rosedale Rd. between La 413/Poydras Bayou and La 1145/Calumet.

Cody Clouatre, 27, of St. Amant and Louis Chustz, 63, of Port Allen, were killed in the crash.

Louisiana State Police troopers say Clouatre was driving a 2011 Ford Escape pulling a boat with a trailer headed west on Rosedale Rd. At the same time, Chustz was going the opposite direction on Rosedale Rd. in a 2006 Ford Focus.

For unknown reasons, Clouatre attempted to pass a 2014 Chevrolet Impala in a passing zone but hit the Focus head-on. The driver of the Impala hit the boat trailer due to the crash.

Clouatre was not buckled at the time of the crash and died at the scene. Meanwhile, Chustz was buckled properly but also died on the scene. The driver of the Impala, who was buckled, was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

While impairment is unknown in the West Baton Rouge crash, standard toxicology samples were taken from all drivers and will be submitted for analysis.  This crash remains under investigation.
