WHITE CASTLE — A high school student has been arrested for stabbing another student at White Castle High School on Monday, Iberville Parish. According to Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi, 17-year-old Cur’eon Thomas was taken into custody for the incident.
The school was briefly placed on lockdown following the stabbing, school officials confirmed. The student, whose age was not disclosed, was taken to a Baton Rouge hospital, according to a letter sent to parents. Officials said they are in close contact with the student’s family.
Stassi said that the student is currently in stable condition.
“We understand that this news is deeply concerning, and we want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our paramount concern,” Superintendent Louis Voiron, Jr. said in the letter to parents. “We recognize that students may be experiencing a range of emotions in the aftermath of this incident. We will have additional counselors and support staff available in the coming days to provide support and guidance to students and staff who may need it.”
Thomas was booked into the Iberville Parish Jail on charges of aggravated second-degree battery and carrying a dangerous weapon as a student.
The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
