AMITE — A Hammond woman, Connie Jones, was arrested for allegedly impersonating an attorney at the Tangipahoa Parish Jail in Amite.
Connie Jones, 44, is being charged with several felonies, including practicing law without a license and criminal trespassing.
Tangipahoa Sheriff’s deputies say on July 19th, Jones introduced herself to detectives as the attorney for two inmates facing additional charges after being re-booked into the jail. Detectives say they were familiar with Jones from investigating a case involving the two inmates and knew she was not an attorney or paralegal.
Following a confrontation, Jones was arrested. While booking her, deputies discovered that other people were waiting for Jones in a car in the jail parking lot. After talking with the people in the car, detectives arrested one person for possession of synthetic marijuana.
