Woman arrested, accused of setting own home on fire

BELLE ROSE, La. – Assumption Parish deputies arrested a woman accused of arson.

Aline Marie Joseph, 36, of Belle Rose was arrested concerning her house being set on fire Thursday afternoon.

Officials say deputies were dispatched to the home on Frank Lane about Joseph allegedly breaking windows on a vehicle. Deputies were advised that Joseph was armed.

As the deputy approached the Frank Lane area he observed smoke rising. When the deputy arrived, officials say Joseph was running towards a wooded area. The deputy arrested Joseph after a brief foot pursuit.

During the ensuing investigation, deputies were able to connect Joseph to a house fire at 173 Frank Lane. During that fire, two automobiles were damaged.

Deputies were able to recover evidence of arson and identified Joseph as the suspect.

Joseph was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:

  • Aggravated Arson of an Inhabited Dwelling
  •  Simple Criminal Damage to Property
  •  Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
  •  Disturbing the Peace

Joseph remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
