Woman arrested after young kids shot while playing with AK-47

BATON ROUGE —- A woman has been arrested after a toddler & his cousin were shot under her supervision, but refused to report it.

Desiree Felder, 26, has been arrested after her sister left her 3-yr-old child with Felder over the weekend so she could go work her overnight shift. While with Felder, her 3-yr-old nephew and her own 6-yr-old son ended up getting to an AK-47.

Sources tell Unfiltered with Kiran the toddler was able to somehow get to an AK-47 and shot off several rounds. The bullets did not hit anyone directly but several fragments and shrapnel injured both children including graze wounds.

It was around 9:30pm on Sunday, May 15th when Baton Rouge Police officers responded to Children’s Hospital for a 3-yr-old injured from gunshot wounds. That’s when officials realized the 6-yr-old was more severely injured to his legs and chest and had several injuries from the fragments that hit him, but his mother is accused of not reporting the incident to police or taking the children to a hospital for treatment. Instead, it appears from police that Felder allegedly tried to conceal what happened altogether.

The 6-yr-old was also taken to a hospital eventually. A doctor confirmed that metal fragments did show up in both children’s bodies. Both children do have non-life threatening injuries despite the amount of injuries.

Felder was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Prison on two counts of second degree cruelty to juveniles and obstruction of justice.

The Louisiana Dept. of Child & Family Services has now stepped in according to sources having taken custody of the 6-yr-old child.

UWK reached out to DCFS and they responded: State confidentiality laws prevent DCFS from commenting on or acknowledging a potential investigation involving child abuse or neglect.
