Woman arrested, charged with identity theft

Assumption Parish deputies arrest a Thibodaux woman accused of cashing stolen checks.

Mary Marie Chatman was arrested and charged after an investigation determined Chatman allegedly cashed a stolen check reported in December 2021.

Chatman was being held by Patterson police on unrelated charges but was turned over to the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Chatman was booked into the Ascension Parish Detention Center and charged with monetary instrument abuse, forgery, bank fraud and identity theft.

Chatman remains in jail pending a bond hearing.
