Woman arrested for third offense DWI after “punching & biting” officers

CENTRAL — A wreck early Wednesday morning in Central ended with a Denham Springs woman allegedly “punching & biting” officers.

Central Police Chief Roger Corcoran says it was around 6:30 a.m. when the driver of a 2019 Nissan Altima hit the guardrail of the Central Thruway just south of Frenchtown Rd. The impact from the crash knocked off the front driver side tire.

When a Central Police officer and East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputy went up to the driver, Jennifer Payne, 44, Chief Corcoran said she started fighting them and “punching, kicking and biting” them.

Although Payne was not injured in the crash, she was taken to a hospital, where she submitted to a drug analysis.

“She was found to be under the influence of numerous illegal narcotics. She also admitted to being convicted of two prior DWI’s on 8/4/23 and 8/23/23 in Livingston Parish,” said Chief Corcoran.

Payne was arrested and transported to parish prison. She’s charged with 3rd offense DWI, careless operation, driving under suspension and resisting an officer by force.

A booking photo was not provided due to Act No. 494, which places restrictions on mugshots released to the media for most offenses with exceptions for certain violent crimes.
