Woman found guilty of attempted murder in 2022 home invasion

ASCENSION — An Ascension Parish jury found a woman guilty of attempted first-degree murder and home invasion connected to a 2022 home invasion.

Peggy Valentine, 44, of Donaldsonville, was found guilty in connection to her involvement in the incident that led to the homeowner being stabbed.

On May 4, 2022, Ascension Parish deputies responded to the incident at a Donaldsonville home. When deputies arrived, residents told them a woman dressed in all black armed with a boxcutter entered the home and stabbed the victim while she was asleep in her bed.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where she was treated for multiple stab wounds. Although the victim could not identify the suspect, during an extensive investigation, detectives identified Peggy Valentine as a potential suspect. During an interview with detectives, Valentine confessed to entering the residence armed with two box cutters and stabbing the victim. Valentine was arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.

Sentencing is tentatively set for February 27, 2024. Valentine remains incarcerated in the Ascension Parish Jail. Officials say Valentine faces decades in state prison.
