Women arrested, accused of child neglect & abuse

A woman from Osceola, Indiana, was arrested after allegedly abusing children near Labadieville in May, according to the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Delanea R. Settlemyre, 24, was arrested in Elhart County Indiana by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office and sent to the Assumption Parish Detention Center on July 7, 2022, where she was charged with four counts of cruelty to juveniles and four counts of criminal neglect to family.

Officials say deputies went to a home in the 3100 block of LA 1 in connection with a potential protective order violation.

Deputies noticed unsuitable living conditions with several children present. The deputies examined the children and noted signs of injury and neglect.

Detectives from the Department of Children and Family Services, or DCFS, were notified and launched an investigation.

That investigation found that Settlemyre and another person had left the children in less than ideal living conditions without proper care for a couple of weeks. Investigators added that Settleyre and Megan Lee Crawley, 30, had allegedly abused the children.

Crawley was arrested on June 10, 2022 & charged with violation of protective orders and four counts of cruelty to juveniles. Crawley is currently being held on a $112,500 bond.

Settlemyre is being held without bond.
