Zachary man killed after he was ejected from truck during crash

BATON ROUGE — A 66-year-old Zachary resident lost his life in a single-vehicle crash on Plank Rd. near Blount Rd. in Baton Rouge Memorial Day.

Swill Charles was driving a 2020 Ford F-250 heading north on Plank Rd. around 5:30 p.m. Monday when he reportedly veered off the right side of the road and collided with an embankment, Louisiana State Police say.

Charles was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected into a canal, LSP said. Charles died at the scene.

LSP says that they collected toxicology samples as they investigate what caused the crash. Troopers are looking for witnesses who may have seen the crash.

While not all crashes are survivable, statistics demonstrate that properly worn restraints can significantly reduce your risk of being injured or killed in a crash. Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Properly wearing your seat belt is one of the most effective ways to save your life and reduce injuries in crashes.  Please take some time to speak with your love ones about the importance of making safe decisions while driving.
