Zachary Police Detectives are investigating how a 2-yr-old boy ended up shot in the chest.
Around 8:20pm on Thursday, July 21st, a representative from Lane Memorial Hospital called Zachary Police in reference to a toddler shot.
By the time officers made it the hospital, the baby boy was being airmed to Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge.
It’s still early into the investigation. So far, Chief of Detectives Sgt. Enoch Sims says it happened on Shaffett Ln. in Zachary and appears to be an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to the toddler’s mother, they were having a barbecue at the home. She said she had a gun in her purse and her son got into purse. That’s when she said the 2-yr-old shot himself once in the chest.
He is listed in stable condition.
Sgt. Sims as of now, they have no evidence that the parents were involved. It’s why the parents are not facing any charges.
If their investigation finds otherwise, Sgt. Sims said they will act accordingly.
