Ken’Jaylen Nixon, 16, is recovering in a hospital after he was shot. His grandparents tell Unfiltered with Kiran that Nixon got into an argument with one of the suspects before he was shot in the stomach and transported to the hospital. Nixon is expected to recover from his injuries.

“It’s like they were bullying him,” Nixon’s grandfather, Eric Smith said. “They were minors but that minor picked up a gun and shot another kid.”

Nixon’s grandparents were outraged that all three suspects were not apprehended immediately, but Zachary Police explained because it involved juveniles, they had to follow the law and needed time to do their jobs.

“The officers haven’t called or told us anything until we started pushing on social media,” Nixon’s grandfather, Eric Smith said. “Ken’Jaylen Nixon is a 4.0 student. He doesn’t bother anyone. He’s not well known. He’s just a normal kid. Me and his grandmother stay on top of what he’s doing.”

Smith said his grandson got in a fight on campus at Zachary High last Monday, November 28. He missed the next two days of school before Thursday’s shooting.

Anyone with further information or Edwards’ whereabouts is asked to call Zachary Police.
