Zachary: Two juveniles arrested after woman shot trying to stop her neighbor’s vehicle burglary

ZACHARY — Two people have been arrested in connection to a woman shot multiple times while attempting to stop a vehicle burglary.

Two juveniles were arrested on Thursday, May 30th. Since they are juveniles, their names and mugshots cannot be released. They’re facing several charges including attempted second-degree murder, theft of a motor vehicle, illegal use of a weapon and illegal possession of stolen things.

Zachary detectives made the arrest with the help Zachary police officers, the Baker Police Department and East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, in the 4800 block of East Central Ave., near Main St. in Zachary.

Police Chief Darryl Lawrence told UWK that officers responded to a call about a shooting, and when they arrived, they discovered that a suspect had been pulling on vehicle doors in the neighborhood. When the suspect was attempting to open doors at a specific home on East Central Ave., a neighbor confronted the suspect in an effort to stop the alleged burglary.

“The citizen was shot three times, but the injuries are not considered life-threatening,” said Chief Lawrence. “We advise our citizens not to confront anyone.”

One 17-year-old juvenile was transported to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and the other was transported to the East Baton Rouge Juvenile Detention Center.
